1. Item build for a BH position 4, building for the setup
so items hit hardest in fights and cut down enemy cores
  • Spirit Vessel vs Naix — a bad decision: Naix clears it with Rage. The better picks for this game would have been Drums, Solar Crest or Orchid.
  • Orchid Malevolence — forces Naix to buy an early Manta.
  • Pipe is useless in the late game. For a position 4 BH, in the late game it's better to go Scythe of Vyse (Hex) to control Naix and Lina before he uses BKB.
  • Magic Stick and Magic Wand in the midgame — a must-have in fights where spells are being used. They give you resources for a save.
RuleBuy Aghanim's Shard after minute 15: with the right talent it gives 30% damage reduction — a pocket Wind Waker for 1500 gold to save yourself or an ally.
  • Courier logistics: don't keep gold. Set up auto-buy and courier delivery on cooldown.
2. Resource management and reducing walks back to base
so you don't lose lane exp and keep pressuring the map
MistakeWalking back to base over low mana at full HP instead of sending for Clarity by courier.
  • Cost of the mistake: minus 100 gold for a TP back, lost mid exp, and a TP on cooldown. One Clarity costs pennies and pays for itself in 1.5 creeps.
  • Burning mana on invis: don't press Shadow Walk just for the move speed when resources are low. You'll waste mana for nothing and approach the rune with no resources.
3. Warding, dewarding, and playing ‘king of the map’
so the team gets deep vision and you can farm the jungle safely
RuleOn Bounty Hunter you're ‘king of the map’ — buy and place Observer and Sentry Wards yourself on cooldown, don't wait on the team.
  • Deep wards: ward the enemy jungle 3–4 minutes before you make a move, on enemy farm camps (the trio and the jungle near Lina).
  • Smart warding — don't put Observer on the default high-ground spots, they are going to get dewarded easily. Ward the edges and the tight paths.
  • Reading the dewarding: if the enemy walked through a zone (pushed a T1 or went into the trio), there's a 90% chance a ward's sitting there. Drop a Sentry — it pays for itself many times over (350 gold for 3 wards).
4. Controlling power runes and timing your rotations
so you can hit your team's power spikes and break the enemy mid's timings
  • Power runes (min 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18): a BH with 400 MS has to be in mid for the rune, calling in a kill on Lina with Invoker or Veno.
  • Team power spike (minute 15–20): night falling + Blink Dagger on Legion Commander + Diffusal/Orchid. This is the time to smoke and pressure the map.
  • Don't sit on dead lanes: don't stand around as Slark on top with no kill potential. ‘Don't save a drowning man if you can't swim yourself’ — go control mid instead.
5. Pick-offs, calling, and playing off your strong hero
so you don't get dragged into messy 5v5s with a pick that isn't built for it
  • Reading the draft: a setup with Invoker, BH, Legion Commander, and Slark is built for pick-offs (5v4, killing a lone Lina) — not for a straight 5v5 wall fight.
  • Calling: ping your supports and cores. See Veno at mid — call him around behind Lina. See Legion Commander has Blink — use smoke for her duel.
  • Target focus: easy target — Lina on her farm patterns. In a 5v5 teamfight, focus the backline (Hoodwink/Dark Willow), not the meaty frontline. ‘Go for the meat and you'll end up meat yourself.’
6. Managing smokes at the shop
so the team always has smoke for ultimate cooldowns
RuleBuy Smoke of Deceit on cooldown, so the shop never sits at the 3/3 cap and the smoke timer keeps ticking.
  • Execution: don't use smoke blind or on a weak hero with no resources. Only smoke with a strong core, a ready ultimate, or a key item slot.

Your coach at Battle Cup

Want a good Saturday evening and a Battle Cup with your friends, with an experienced coach watching over you? You came to the right place.

Here is what I help you with:

  • The draft: I put together a balanced draft around your hero pool and ban the counter-picks.
  • Before the game I run a brief: what each position has to do and at which timings, when we play passive and when we play active, where we place the wards.
  • During the game I lead you to the win: what to buy, where to play, when to use smoke, when the enemy uses smoke, where to fight, when to take towers, when to take Roshan, when to go high ground. You can ask me any question right in the middle of the game.

You need a Battle Cup ticket or Dota Plus.

We gather in Discord 30 minutes before the games start.

In the private Discord channel I will be waiting for your hero pool — send it in advance so that I have time to prepare.

After the games these land in your dashboard:

  • Battle Cup takeaways: the advice I gave you during the game. And if you ask questions while we play, you also get personal takeaways for exactly those questions, automatically.
  • The Battle Cup recording through my eyes with timecodes: you can always rewatch your game and remember what I told you.
  • Student status for 30 days as a gift

Terms and payment:

Cost $200$40 per person, or $200 from the captain.

The payment has to arrive within 24 hours of the booking, otherwise the booking is cancelled, so that another team can take the slot.

If every player wants the takeaways in their own dashboard — log in through Steam and send me your nickname on the website in the chat, so that I can connect the Battle Cup takeaways to your account and you get the bonus student status for 30 days.

To book, message me on Discord commonnsense.

FAQ

01Do you guarantee I will climb MMR?
I do not promise you a rank — I will not press the buttons for you. And I will not do your homework.
I promise what depends on me: you will know why you lost, what mistakes you made, what to think about during the game and which patterns to follow.
Theory without practice does not work: skip the homework and ignore my advice, and your MMR stays where it is. Put in the work and you grow, because you will have knowledge nobody at your rank has.
02What level of students do you work with?
Any level and any position — from 500 MMR to top 500. And the earlier you catch a mistake, the faster you get rid of bad patterns and stop repeating the same mistakes over and over again.
As a pro player I see Dota as a whole: I know how the roles work with each other and what job every position does. Breakdowns for every position are on my YouTube channel and in the Knowledge Base.
03Do the lessons expire?
The 4-lesson course runs for 90 days, the 10-lesson course — 180 days.
04How a lesson runs
Lessons run in Discord. I ask about your MMR, your role, your goals and what is giving you trouble right now, then we watch your replay or play a 1×1 (if you are a midlaner). I teach you how to win the lane (0–7 min), macro in the mid game (7–25) and how to finish games in the late game (25+).
The takeaways and the homework arrive in your dashboard within 2 minutes after the lesson. Between lessons ask me anything in DMs — I always answer.
05How to book and pay
Pick the format — a diagnostic, a single lesson or several lessons at once — and leave a request in the academy.
Once I accept your request, you can book a lesson through the calendar in your student dashboard.
Student status renewal switches off in your profile in one click.
06Can I cancel or reschedule?
Cancel / reschedule: give me 12 hours notice — nothing gets charged.
No-show: the first time, your lesson stays booked. After that, the lesson is lost. Something serious came up — message me in advance and we will sort it out.
07Can I get a refund?
Short version: we have not started — I give everything back; we have started — half the price of every lesson not held at your course price: 1 250 ₽ in the 4-lesson course, 1 300 ₽ in the 10-lesson course.
The refund policy, with numbers and examples
08What student status gives and whether you need to buy a lesson for it
Access to everything in the academy: every mistake breakdown, the whole Knowledge Base, the checklists, group lessons and the private academy channel in Discord.
Group lessons run in Discord: you can leave your questions in your dashboard in advance and I go through them one by one; the recording and the takeaways stay in your dashboard even if you did not come.
You do not need to buy a lesson to get student status — you can get student status on its own.

How a lesson runs

The lesson runs in Discord. Before it starts, get every question and replay you care about ready.

Student status comes with every format: 30 days for the diagnostic and a lesson, 2 months for the 4-lesson course, 3 months for the 10-lesson course. No lessons — $15/mo.What the status gives ↑
